This is the official site of the WFT Liquidating Trust, formerly known as the Wisconsin Funeral Trust (the “Trust”). On this site, you will find information about the Receiver who was appointed in September 2012 to oversee the Trust. You will also find answers to common questions about the Trust, updates about the receivership of the Trust and contact details for those who need more information. Funeral homes that have made deposits to the Trust on behalf of their customers can also check account balances here. Please note: only funeral directors will be able to access these accounts.
This is not the website of the Wisconsin Funeral Directors Association (the “WFDA”). The WFDA website can be found here. This site relates only to the Wisconsin Funeral Trust.
This appointment came after the Wisconsin Department of Justice and the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions discovered that the Trust has a deficit of at least $21 million. More than 10,000 consumers who prepaid for their funerals are affected.
As the court-appointed Receiver, Mr. Wirth is responsible for protecting the Trust’s assets, recovering the Trust’s shortfall and ensuring that consumer-depositors and funeral homes are treated fairly. As Receiver, Mr. Wirth acts as a watchdog for consumers.
On Monday, July 8, Judge Anderson, a Dane County Circuit Court Judge, approved the motion for a settlement agreement between the Trust and the funeral homes involved with the Trust. All funeral homes with money in the Trust have signed the settlement agreement. Under this agreement, funeral homes ensure that their customers receive the benefits promised them under their burial agreements and, in exchange, will be protected from possible further court action.
NOTE: IF YOU NEED TO CHANGE THE ADDRESS ON YOUR ACCOUNT, OR IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER ISSUES WITH YOUR ACCOUNT, PLEASE CONTACT YOUR FUNERAL HOME REPRESENTATIVE. ALL FUNERAL TRUST TRANSACTIONS MUST ORIGINATE THROUGH THE FUNERAL HOME.
